The nation, a few months ago, witnessed reverse migration post the imposition of lockdown due to Covid.

Using a variation of the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX), India Migration Now has constructed Interstate Migrant Policy Index (IMPEX) to rank and compare #Indianstates on the basis of their migrant integration policies. IMPEX ranks states on a scale of 100 based on their performance in eight areas viz. Education, Labour Market, Child Rights, Political Participation, Identity and Registration, Social Benefits, Housing and Health and Sanitation. States are assigned scores out of 100 on each parameter based on existing policies and schemes for the migrants.

As per the overall average score Kerala (57), Goa (51) and Rajasthan (51) managed to score beyond 50. Kerala, a state with low working age #population has been focussed to achieve greater number of migrants to the state. It is important to note that states like Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Kerala, TamilNadu and national capital, Delhi attract the most number of migrants and only two out of these rank in top 10. It is the discriminatory policies, like the domicile status, that favour locals over interstate migrants that make these states perform poorly in the index.
